Rural Development Partners (RDP) and Coca-Cola Bottling UNITED (Tifton, GA) awarded a matching funds grant of $200,000 for workforce development initiatives at Southern Regional Technical College in Tifton, Georgia. $50,000 was allocated to equip the new Precision Manufacturing Lab through RDP’s “Community Investment Program” of which $35,000 funded a Robot Dog.
Precision Manufacturing Lab – Robot Dog
The Robot Dog brings a whole new level of technology to SRTC’s Precision Manufacturing Lab. This intriguing little bot is versatile and helps instruct students in the areas of geo-mapping, coding, programming, controls, and more. Christina Reneau, Director of Institutional Advancement shared, “The new robot dog is a hit when community members tour our campus for those programs”.
The remote-controlled robot dog moves 0-3.7m/s, can climb a slope angle of up to 40◦, and detect/avoid objects through a wide-angle high-definition camera. This dog bot is equipped with wireless vector positioning and poses the moon walk, side-step, cross step, jump up, jump forward, front somersault, happy, shake hands, throw people, sit down, stretch, bow, performs a variety of creative dances and more. This great little actor is equipped with a microphone speaker for voice interaction and recognition, fast literacy, and impressive lighting. The bot can give real-time feedback of robot status and demonstration actions complete with music and lights.
